Unwarranted Accusations Spark Tension Between Jennie and Lisa Fans Over a Star Logo

In the ever-evolving world of K-pop, fan wars are not uncommon, especially when it comes to major names like BLACKPINK’s Jennie and Lisa. Over the years, tensions between their solo fandoms, the Jensetters (Jennie’s fans) and Lilies (Lisa’s fans), have only escalated. What started as excitement over their individual creative ventures has now devolved into unnecessary online feuds, with the latest disagreement centering on something as simple as a star logo.

On September 8, 2024, Jennie announced her highly anticipated comeback, marking a new era for her career under her self-established label, ODDATELIER. Alongside the pre-order announcement, Jennie’s new logo was revealed, featuring her name with a four-pointed star placed between the two “N”s. What should have been an exciting new chapter for Jennie and her fans quickly turned sour due to accusations of plagiarism.

The controversy erupted after Lisa, who also departed from her former agency YG Entertainment to establish her own label, LLOUD, incorporated a five-pointed star in the branding of her new era, which can be seen at the end of her new music videos, “Rockstar” and “New Woman.” A tweet from a Lisa fan (Lilies) accused Jennie of copying Lisa’s star branding, deeming her a “copycat” and sparking outrage among fans on both sides. The post quickly gained traction, with over 100k views and numerous quotes and comments that fueled the argument.

However, the accusation seems baseless, as the use of stars in logos is far from unique in the world of branding and design. With no direct correlation between Jennie’s four-pointed star and Lisa’s five-pointed one, many consider this outrage unwarranted and simply a targeted attempt to damage Jennie’s reputation.

The situation reflects a deeper issue within the K-pop fandom where any slight resemblance or similarity is often blown out of proportion, leading to unnecessary animosity between fandoms. In this case, Jennie’s logo is clearly part of her new era and brand identity with Oddatelier, and drawing comparisons to Lisa’s star imagery seems to stem from unfounded bias rather than fact.

As Jennie prepares for her much-awaited comeback and Lisa continues to thrive in her solo ventures, one can only hope that both fandoms can focus on supporting their respective idols instead of engaging in baseless fan wars. After all, both Jennie and Lisa are carving their own distinct paths in the music industry, and there’s more than enough space for both to shine—stars or no stars.
