MBC weathercaster Oh Yoanna (1996–2024) reportedly attempted suicide twice before her passing.
On the 31st, her family revealed on JTBC 'Crime Chief' that the late Oh Yoanna faced two critical moments a few days before her death. They stated, "She made the first attempt on September 6 and then tried again later. Eventually, she passed away on September 15." The family claimed that the late Oh Yoanna suffered from two years of verbal abuse and unjust orders from her colleagues. She had also told her friends, "Work is so hard, I want to die," and visited over 10 psychiatric clinics and received medication.
"On September 6, at around 2AM, I received a call. She had tried to jump off Gayang Bridge, but an elderly woman who happened to pass by her managed to grab her by the hair and pull her back before reporting it to the police. When asked why she tried to die, she answered, 'Work is too hard. It feels like my spine is breaking and my intestines are being torn apart. Living is too painful, I just want to be at peace.' When they told her, 'This won't do. We need to get your family's consent and admit you to a hospital for 6 months,' she replied, 'I have to broadcast. I have contracts to fulfill, and I have to film. I'm not dying. I just did it out of anger.'"

Oh Yoanna passed away in September last year, but the news of her death was only made public 3 months later. A 17-page suicide note was discovered on her phone, alleging that she had been experiencing workplace harassment by two fellow weathercasters. Her family has filed a lawsuit against the alleged perpetrators at the Seoul Central District Court. The family complained, "MBC didn't even post a notice about her death. They said it was due to orders from high-ranking executives." They continued, "This seems like a planned cover-up. We will uncover the truth and demand an apology."
MBC initially said that they would launch an investigation only if it was requested by her family, but after receiving a direct order from the Ministry of Employment and Labor, they will start a full-scale investigation next week.
Oh Yoanna: I think I said something that offended you. I'll be more careful with my words from now on, Sunbaenim.
???: What exactly are you being careful about? That's ridiculous. Should I start pointing out every mistake you make? There are so many things I just let slide, Oh Yoanna. Seriouslyㅋㅋ Just do your job properly.
-Hul... They didn't even announce her passing? Why?
-I can't imagine how painful it must've been for her. It's heartbreaking even just to think about it. May she rest in peace.
-Told y'all this is workplace harassment. No wonder why the higher-ups are acting like that.
-If only she had been admitted to a hospital, things might have been different…ㅠ
-It's unbelievable that the weathercasters who bullied her are still on air like nothing happened... MBC is crazy, they're messed up.
-This is so heart-breakingㅠ
-Are they crazy? Even the small company I'm working in release notices about long-term contract workers who passed away... She was a full-time employee.
-MBC-ya... How can you say you didn't know about this? It just doesn't make sense.
-She must have been suffering so much… And MBC didn't even post a notice about her passing? That's really cruel.
-Who are the higher-ups executives in question? There’s no devil worse than them.
-It's crazy how she had to go on air on the same day she attempted suicide... I hope everything is fully revealed, and she gets the sincere apology she deserves so she can rest in peace.
-What is MBC doing? Ignoring this while claiming to stand for justice? Is justice only for some people? This is ridiculous.
-Even if she was a freelancer, she was still an employee of the company. How could they not post a notice for an employee's passing? What is MBC even doing?
-I was shocked to see the alleged perpetrators broadcasting wearing Hanbok during the Lunar New Year. What is MBC even thinking?
-I really want to see those flop. I'm so angry.
